Back in March I mentioned a new robotic glove called the Hand of Hope and told you I was trying to get into a research study to test the efficacy of the device. Well, it didn't happen. On Tuesday I went to New York for my in person evaluation and I flunked. The deal was that you need passive movement of the hand to be able to lay the fingers out to get the HOH on. But, I thought, if i could do that I wouldn't need the device to loosen my spasticity. Come to find out the device is not for reducing spasticity, but for strengthening the extension and flexion of the fingers! Oh well, when I get to the point of reducing my spasitcity so that I can relax my hand enough to get the device on maybe they will have a followup study that I can partake in.
So for now I'll continue with my rehab an reduce my spasticity the old fashioned way. With hard work!
By the way, the thing I find that helps me reduce my spasticity the most so far is prolonged stretching. What I do is put my hand palm down on a table after opening it with my unaffected hand, then I straighten my elbow as much as possible over the wrist and lean to the right (my left hand is affected. Reverse if right hand is affected) . If you can't open the hand enough to place it on the table because your hand is too stiff. With the knuckles facing up try grabbing your affected hand over the knuckles and push the fist towards the elbow and hold for a count of five (or more). Do these exercises as much as you can tolerate. But don't forget to check wiyh your OT first!
Sorry I don't have any feedback for you all.
